Adventurous Training Group (Germany) (ATG(G))

ATG(G) provides the Command and Control for all AT activities involving British Forces in Germany and delivers specialised AT training from their dedicated facilities throughout Germany.

ATG(G) was formed in April 1999 after a joint HQ UKSC(G) and HQ 1 (UK) Armd Div study into the future of Adventurous Training in Germany.

Specific instructions with regards to AT planning for those based in Germany wishing to undertake AT can be found in the ATG(G) Level 2 and Level 3 Aide Memoire, (see the right-hand menu for respective links).

Alpine Training Centre (ATC)

Since the formation of HQ ATG(G) in Sennelager on 1 April 1999, British Alpine Centre (Bavaria) (BAC(C)), which on 1 January 2002 was renamed the Alpine Training Centre (ATC), the ATC is now the focal point for all AT activities in Southern Germany. It consists of a Level 4 Training Centre and three Multi Activity Lodges.

The Alpine Training Centre runs courses within the following schemes:

  • Canoeing - including kayaking and open canoeing.
  • Mountaineering - including summer and alpine mountaineering and rock climbing.
  • Skiing - including ski mountaineering and touring.
  • Paragliding.

The Multi-Activity Lodges offer accommodation, equipment and staffing support for Unit Adventurous Training in the summer months (May - Nov), and Unit places for winter training courses (Jan - Apr). Information and booking can be obtained through ATG(G).

  • Joint Service Parachute Centre (Lippspringe) (JSPC(L))

JSPC(L) conducts freefall parachuting courses at both basic and advanced level. The Centre is located on the edge of the Sennelager range area which is 10 km northwest of Paderborn. Facilities include two turbine aircraft, a bunkhouse, canteen, showers and bar.

The JSPC(L) was established in 1972 to deliver high quality adventurous parachute training that tests, challenges and develops the character of service personnel in order to enhance their personal qualities and capabilities in peace and on operations. The RAPA remains at the core of JSPC (L), and is the official technical body concerned with free fall parachuting in Germany.

  • Kiel Training Centre (KTC)

Joint Services Adventurous Training (AT) Centre. Kiel is situated in the heart of the Baltic, and offers easy access to a range of superb waters. Sailing, Diving and Power boating practical AT courses during Mar-Nov annually, and a range of shore based courses throughout the year.

Kiel Training Centre (KTC) is a Services Adventurous Training (AT) centre in northern Germany. We run Sailing, Diving and Power boating practical AT courses during Mar-Nov annually, and a range of shore based courses throughout the year. Kiel is situated in the heart of the Baltic, and offers easy access to a range of superb waters. Each year over 1500 Servicemen make use of our facilities. Courses are all run to National Governing Body syllabus, the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) for sailing and power boating, and the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC) for diving.

  • Adventurous Training Lodges

The ATG(G) has AT lodges in Bavaria; Hubertushaus, Drei Muhlen, Haus Magnus and the Harz Mountains; Sonnenberg, Torfhaus.
