Adventurous training activities
Nine outdoor activities are funded by the three Services as the cornestone of the Joint Services Adventurous Training Scheme (JSAT). Each Service has a delegated sponsorship responsibility for one or more of these activities.
Adventurous Training - canoeing / kayaking

The Joint Service Canoe/Kayak Scheme provides training from dedicated centres in the UK and overseas, and meets the Adventurous Training (AT) Aim through the delivery of structured courses for Open, Inland, Sea, and Surf disciplines.

The Joint Service Parachuting Scheme is delivered from dedicated centres both in the UK and overseas, to meet the AT Aim through the delivery of structured courses that seek to develop the requisite skills and techniques necessary to complete

Adventurous training - hang gliding / paragliding

The Joint Service Hang Gliding / Paragliding scheme is delivered from dedicated centres both in the UK and ovcerseas, to meet the AT Aim through the delivery of scructured courses that seek to develop the requisite skills and techniques to
- attain elementary, club and advanced pilot proficiency
- Understand air law and codes of good practice
- attain coaching skills and techniques
Adventurous training - mountaineering
Mountaineering
The Joint Service Mountaineering Scheme provides training from purpose-built centres in the UK and overseas. It offers structured courses to develop these skills and techniques.
- Operate in mountainous terrain in summer, winter and Alpine terrain. Students will move up from proficiency through leader to Expedition and Advanced Expedition Leader.
- Develop the requisite skills and techniques necessary, to conduct climbing, the supervision of single pitch and abseiling activities, then progressing onto winter climbing.
