MOD Police - Professional standards

The MDP Professional Standards Department records and investigates public complaints against its police officers, and carries out investigations into matters of internal misconduct. The Force is subject to the jurisdiction of the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

How to make a complaint

Those with whom the MDP come in to contact are entitled to the high standards expected of a police force. If you are unhappy with the way you have been dealt with, you can complain:

· in England & Wales direct to the IPCC (Independent Police Complaints Commission)

· in Scotland direct to the PCCS (Police Complaints Commissioner Scotland)

· in Northern Ireland direct to PONI (Police Ombudsman Northern Ireland)

Registering your dissatisfaction helps us see where and why we have not succeeded in meeting our own high standards. It allows us to learn from our shortcomings and improve the service we provide.

You can make a complaint about:

  • The level of service you have received from a police officer.
  • The inappropriate conduct of a police officer - for example, if you believe that an officer has behaved incorrectly or unfairly.

You can make a complaint about the conduct of a MOD police officer if

  • you have been the victim of misconduct by any member of the MOD Police
  • you have witnessed or been affected by misconduct
  • you are a friend, relative or representative of the victim of the misconduct

You can make a complaint in any of the following ways:

· In person at any MOD Police station

· By telephone on 01371 854305 (our Professional Standards HQ)

· To any of the following independent bodies: IPCC, PCCS, or PONI

· Online or by e-mail to mdp.psdmailbox@mdpga.mod.uk

· by fax on 01371 854969

· In writing to:

If you choose to make a complaint, you need to provide us with as much information as possible, including:

  • your name, address and contact details
  • what happened and when
  • who was involved
  • what was said or done
  • details of any witnesses
  • whether any damage or injury took place.
