Accountability
The Secretary of State for Defence has delegated to the MOD's Director General of Corporate Services his responsibility for determining the size, policy and resource framework within which the Agency operates.

In its policing role, MDP operates entirely independent of political or departmental control in the maintenance and operation of the criminal law. However, the Defence Secretary may set priorities for policing, determine and provide resources and appoint the management of the Agency.

MOD Police Committee
The independently chaired Police Committee has oversight of the exercise of its police powers by the MDP. It is not a police authority in the standard sense because it does not allocate financial and other resource, which is instead provided by the MOD. Notwithstanding, the Committee aims to mirror police authority best practice where possible and appropriate.
