Entry Requirements

This section clearly sets out the minimum qualifications we require in order to consider you for any one of the 4 entry schemes provided by DESG.

Graduate

Eligibility

To apply to the Graduate Scheme you must :

  • Be British or have dual-nationality of which one is British.
  • Have completed or be in your final year of an approved engineering or science degree (or others listed below)
  • Have obtained, or expect to obtain a minimum 2:2 honours degree in one of the disciplines below.

DTUS

Eligibility

To apply to DTUS you must:
  • Be British or have dual-nationality of which one is British.
  • Be studying for an approved science or engineering degree at one of the following Universities: Aston, Birmingham, Loughborough, Southampton, Newcastle, Northumbria, Oxford, or Cambridge.
  • Be in year one of a three year degree course or years one and two of a four year degree course and on track to achieve a 2:2 degree or better
  • Be enthusiastic to pursue the unique development opportunities afforded by DTUS and to accept the additional obligations that exist within a military environment,
  • Be available to undertake work placements in a variety of locations in the UK during your summer holidays.

  • Be British or have dual-nationality of which one is British
  • Be studying for an approved engineering or science degree at a University in the UK
  • Be in your first or second year of a three year degree course or your first, second or third year of a four year degree course and on track to achieve a 2:2 degree or better
  • Be available to undertake work placements in a variety of locations in the UK during your summer holidays

Welbeck

Eligibility

To join Welbeck as a Ministry of Defence Civil Service candidate you must be a British citizen or hold dual nationality, once of which must be British.
The Ministry of Defence Civil Service welcomes applications from disabled candidates.

Minimum entry requirements are an "A" grade at GCSE (or equivalent) in Mathematics (the higher or credit level syllabus) and a "B" in grade dual award science/single science equivalent, as well as a "C" grade in English language.
Further, candidates must score at least 40 points (38 in Scotland) for their best seven subjects on the basis of:

Your school or college must supply a reference showing that you are expected to achieve the minimum entry requirements. Candidates must also be capable of taking mathematics and preferably physics and two other subjects for the first year of their sixth form, as well as an ICT Course.

  • Tuition is paid for by the MOD. Parents or guardians are required to make a contribution towards the cost of their child's maintenance, which covers board, lodging and the value of clothing and services provided.
  • The level of contribution is determined on the basis of the parents' or guardians' residual or disposable income after allowance is made for other children, mortgage payments and other amounts normally acceped by the Inland Revenue. No other boarding school offers such a comprehensive and high-quality education as such low cost.
