SPVA was formed as a tri-Service Agency in 2007 to provide harmonised personnel administration services and accurate payment of pay, allowances and pensions to the serving and Veterans communities.
The Agency works in a partnering relationship with Hewlett-Packard (HP) to deliver value for money services to military personnel through pay and pension services and to Veterans through the Armed Forces Pension Scheme and Armed Forces Compensation Scheme.
The Agency also has commercial relationships with Paymaster (1836) Ltd, for pension payments and Atos Origen for medical suppport to pension awards.
SPVA has responsibility for the delivery of a tri-Service administration system, known as Joint Personnel Administration (JPA). JPA harmonises and simplifies personnel and pay administration across the Services. Crucially, the Agency has direct interaction via the JPA system with some 285,000 Regular and Reserve personnel and 365,000 Armed Forces pensioners.
The Agency day to day business is managed at the highest level by the Agency Management Group (AMG), comprising MOD and HP directors. This unique style of joint working can be seen operating at all levels within the Agency and helps drive performance and collaborative working across the full range of SPVA business.
The Agency also has an Executive Board which complements the role of the AMG and deals with commercially sensitive and funding issues for managing the Partnering Agreement.
