The Armed Forces Compensation Scheme
The Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) provides compensation for any injury, illness or death which is predominately caused by service, on or after 6 April 2005.
**NEW 22 MAY 12 - LAUNCH OF THE AFCS VIDEO CLIP**
We are pleased to announce the launch a new AFCS awareness video, produced with support from the Royal British Legion and Combat Stress. Please see the link on the right hand side of the page.
The Right Honourable Andrew Robathan,
Minister for Defence Personnel, Welfare and Veterans
"The Government has provided its full support towards ensuring that when service leads to injury, ill health or death, there is a comprehensive compensation package in place"
Colonel Fiona Gardner, Army Pay Colonel
"This is a no fault Scheme open to all Service personnel and covering the whole spectrum of injuries from life changing operational injuries to a broken toe. If you have been injured as a result of service you can and should make a claim."
The revised AFCS has now been launched, incorporating all of the recommendations made by Admiral the Lord Boyce, former Chief of Defence Staff, in his Review of the scheme in 2010.
These changes include the recommendations made by the Independent Medical Expert Group (IMEG) which has now published its first report. You can find this report and the Government's response to the report on the right hand side under Related Pages .
As a result of the changes to the Scheme, Service personnel who become injured or ill as a result of their service will now be able to benefit from an even more comprehensive compensation package.
Who is eligible?
ALL current and former members of the UK Armed Forces, including Reservists, may submit a claim for compensation. In the event of service-related death, the Scheme pays benefits to eligible partners and children.
