The Benefits of Using The System

Exactly what IS codification?

Is it complicated, what does it do and what exactly is ISIS.

Codification is a catalogue of everything the military use day to day. Not just weapons systems and hardware, but spares, clothing, medical items, food and anything else the services may need on a daily basis.

An ARGOS for the Army, Navy and RAF. Each item, along with its technical description, is stored on ISIS along with details of all the known manufacturers and suppliers and any other relevant information making it easy to retreive that data when required. ISIS stands for Item of Supply Information System.

It costs too much!

Hands up anyone who's been told you can't have it codified because it costs too much. The truth is, it doesn't cost thousands of pounds, not even hundreds, so the price is very much right.

It takes too long!

I need to have used it three times before I can codify it, it'll be obsolete before I get my NSN (NATO Stock Number). Actually, routine codification is carried out well within our target date of 45 working days, if you need it faster for operational reasons, it can be done within 24 hours.

You can apply for codification as soon as the design of an item is frozen, no need to wait for three strikes.

What do I need to do?

I don't have time to describe one of these down the phone and I certainly can't send one through the post! All you really need to send us is what we refer to as source data. This could be the technical drawing for the item or the manufacturers catalogue or specification and we'll do the rest.

Why do I need this?

It may be okay to use a domestic reference in your own comfort zone, but in these days of Tri-Service and multinational operations, a common supply language is required, used in over 60 participating countries, nothing is more common than the NATO Codification System.
