New and Improved Characteristic Screening

UK NCB shows strength of Character

The Item of Supply Information System (ISIS) Web service has always had a lot of character, but now it will now be easier to use them. With effect the 1st of November, 2007, the search criteria for identifying an item by its technical characteristics will be simplified.

It will still be possible to use the current format of inputting an Item Name Code (INC) and asking and answering a series of pertinent Master Requirement Codes (MRC) and Reply's, but the overall search criteria has been adapted to give it more of a commercial catalogue feel.

Now in the commercial world, if your kingdom was at a loss for want of a fuse, you would pop into B & Q and start your search in the electrical department, find the big bay with all the connector type items, and then in amongst all the other fuses, pick out the correct Fit, Form and Function the job at hand requires.

Well that's now exactly what you can do in the new and improved Characteristics Screening Tool which will launch on ISIS Web on the 1st of November, 2007.

Clicking on the directory toggle switch for Characteristics after that date, will present you with a list of categories making up the entire UK NATO Codification Database.

You can 'keyword' search for the item you're interested in or scroll through the list until you find a suitable 'node' to start on. From there on in, its as simple as clicking the 'node' which will step you to the next level of information which you follow to its natural conclusion.
Once you have completed the simple steps, just like in B & Q, you'll have identified the item you want and have access to all the catalogued information on that item such as who you can buy one from, who's responsible for it in the supply chain and any specific supply and handling information that may be recorded.

As with any big change, there may be some training requirement to ensure that our customers are getting the best service possible from their ISIS Web applications.

If you wish any advice and guidance or specific training on the new Characteristic Screening Tool, or any other aspect of NATO Codification, our training team can be contacted using any of the following:
