Vapour Containment System
The aim of reporting the results of the Assessment Study to the Environment Agency by the end of 2006 has been achieved and there now follows a period of data analysis in accordance with Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act, so that the optimum remediation strategy at Dumps A and B can be agreed and then implemented. The investigations at the former mine workings continued into the Summer of 2007 and 2008 and require an incremental approach, incorporating rigorous health and safety procedures. It is hoped that the aim of taking samples from the disused plant and equipment can by achieved during 2007, so that the next steps can be discussed and agreed with the Environment Agency.
The Programme of regular water sampling around the dumps referred to earlier will continue for several years and the investigation into other areas of the site (known as Phase 5b) is also being taken forward. Public consultation has been a key part of the project to date and the project team will continue to make available information to the local interested parties through the Nancekuke Working Party, supported by all major stakeholders inclduing the Environments Agency, Kerrier District Council and Cornwall County Council.
