ASEMS Audit Tools

Acquisition Safety and Environmental Management System (ASEMS) Audit Tools.

The Complete Audit Procedures document (first document in the list below) contains sections 8 & 9 of the POSMS and POEMS manuals, procedures AAP1-4, and the relevant forms and guidance.

The audit questions given at Annex B below will be used by DE&S for audit of IPTs.  They may also be used by IPTs themselves for internal audit.

The audit programme below has been produced in conjunction with the individual safety management offices of the DG SE system groups to assist IPT’s with programme planning, and is correct at the time of publication. The programme shows in general, the month in which an IPT can expect to be audited. The actual date will be finalised by agreement between the IPT and the lead auditor and may not reflect what is shown in the programme. Any queries regarding detailed programming should be directed at the relevant safety management office. A review of the programme will take place towards the end of each calendar year, to provide a revised version for the following financial year.

Environmental Booklet ('Green Booklet')

The 'Green Booklet,' An Introduction to Environmental Management in the MOD Acquisition Process, is an entry-level reference for environmental management.  Its purpose is as an introduction to environmental management concepts, terms and activities.  It is intended to allow MOD and contractor personnel to quickly understand how environmental issues affect them.  It is not intended as a contractual document.

The current version of the book is Issue 3, dated May 2011.

The booklet is in Adobe Acrobat format and requires the Adobe Reader software for viewing.  If you do not have Adobe Reader installed, please contact your local system administrator, or follow the 'External Link' on the right-hand side of this page.

POEMS Manual

The purpose of this document is to explain the contents and operation of the Environmental Management element of MOD's Acquisition Safety and Environmental Management System (ASEMS).  This element is known as the Project-Oriented Environmental Management System (POEMS).  The other element of ASEMS is the Project-Oriented Safety Management System (POSMS) which has a separate, although closely related, manual.

The POEMS Manual includes all Core Procedures (EMP01 - EMP08), Support Procedures (SSP01 - SSP03) and Assurance and Audit Procedures (AAP01 - AAP04).

POEMS is now at Version 2.3 and the documents below will be updated shortly.  For access to POEMS V2.3 please access via the POEMS Process Maps on the right.

DE&S Acquisition Safety and Environmental Management System

The Acquisition Safety and Environmental Management System (ASEMS) is a comprehensive information system embodying the principles of good Safety and Environmental Management in Equipment Acquisition.

The ASEMS is published by the Safety and Environmental Protection. It is updated periodically to deliver improved functionality and new or revised content.

The version of ASEMS on this website is v2.2. This has been authorised for use, and supersedes all previous versions.

Use of the ASEMS is mandated for all projects being managed within the DE&S.
